Tooth extraction and post-extraction care
It is understandable that no patient enjoys tooth extraction. In our dental office we strive for absolute painlessness and a quick, high-quality solution to the problem.
Why is a tooth extracted?
There are several reasons, but in general, we are inclined to pull a tooth when we can no longer save the tooth in other ways (whether due to extensive inflammation, caries, a major injury, etc.). It should be added here that we always try to find a conservative solution to the problem, and we therefore always approach tooth extraction only after exhausting other treatment options.
Does tooth extraction really hurt?
We try to protect the patient from any unpleasant feelings. In the first place is the use of local anesthesia of the tooth and a careful approach. The only sensations that the patient can experience during the procedure are mild pressure and traction, and if there is no major inflammation around the tooth, the anesthesia is very effective.
How to behave after the procedure?
After the tooth has been pulled out, the wound is treated or sutured. After the inspection, we will discuss post-extraction care with you. The first two days after the operation you should avoid heavy physical activity, smoking, drinking alcohol and rinsing your mouth.
The reason for this is a blood clot that forms in the wound after being torn. The blood from the clot heals the extraction site and it is very important that it stays in the wound as long as possible. Pain after the procedure is natural. However, it should not last long and responds very well to conventional analgesics. In case of great patient discomfort, we of course have the option of prescribing stronger pain medications.
